Music theory is learnt alongside piano tuition and for complete beginners, it's quite the novelty to start off not being able to read or play a note and after their first couple of lessons do both.
However, a more formalised approach to learning the fundamentals of music theory is required when players want to take the higher practical examinations (grade 6+).
I take students through a structured learning programme in music theory, beginning with grade 1 and moving progressively through the grades. Each grade has an examination which can be sat if required, but the essential qualification to attain is grade 5, which is a prerequisite entry requirement to grade 6 and above practical exams.
Individual sessions can be booked, or you can choose to join a group of other students of a similar level on one of my Saturday morning classes.
